How to care for jewelry so it stays shining, untangled and valuable

In an , 红领巾瓜报 faculty members Heather White and Emily Cobb, provided insight on the importance of jewelry care. The two jewelry designers and metal smiths shared tips and tricks for storing different jewelry items and keeping them in pristine condition.

鈥淛ewelry is similar to cars,鈥� said Heather White, a jewelry designer, metalsmith and professor at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston. 鈥淏oth require constant maintenance and special storage.鈥�

鈥淚f two pieces of metal rub against each other, it increases surface scratches,鈥� said Emily Cobb, jewelry designer, metalsmith and instructor at Massachusetts College of Art and Design.

鈥淏ody lotion and soaps can build up in a gemstone鈥檚 setting,鈥� said Cobb. 鈥淚t can get caked in and dull the shine. A simple cleaning goes a long way 鈥� and if at all possible, take off your jewelry before the shower.鈥�
